What is Eric Kassan's professional philosophy? |
|
My driving desire is to increase the profitability
of a business by best using information and
technology. In order to deliver on this vision
it is necessary to maintain a culture that encourages and rewards employees
to stretch themselves. This also provides side benefits of low turnover
and attracting top talent. My three top values are:
|
1. |
Provide the right information (not just data) at the right time. |
2. |
Explore new technology for new marketing and sales channels. |
3. |
Use technology to redesign current processes to be more efficient. |
|
|
|
Which skills are most important? |
|
Developing strategies and having the right people to execute these
strategies are two major keys to success. A third key is to make
sure your operations are designed to facilitate, not hinder, your
people and strategies. My favorite books on these topics are:
|
• |
Execution - The Discipline of Getting Things Done by Larry Bossidy & Ram Charan |
• |
Managing Technical People by Watts S. Humphrey |
• |
The Prime Movers: Traits of the Great Wealth Creators by Edwin A. Locke |
• |
Open-Book Management by John Case |
• |
The End of Office Politics as Usual by L. B. M. Serven |
• |
Good to Great by Jim Collins |

How important is it for a Technology Leader to understand his industry? |
|
It is absolutely imperative for a technology leader to understand more than
just the technology. He must understand his company’s industry and
business so he can align technology with the company’s objectives. Much
has been written about companies flourishing because of such an alignment
while other companies fail due to a lack of it. While I have experience
in the health, insurance, mortgage, food distribution, and internet
profiling industries, I am able and willing to learn new industries very
rapidly so I can cultivate and maintain an alignment between business and
Information Systems.
